Greatest Female Athletes of All Time
These female superhero athletes made an impact on the Egyptian sports scene, entertained audiences, and encouraged young girls to follow their dreams. And they continue to break records in nearly all kinds of sports around the world. Throughout the years, we are seeing an increased number of female Egyptians competing in competitions abroad, qualifying for the Olympics, and winning medals. They have made Egypt and Egyptians proud so they deserve recognition for the achievements they’ve made. It took them countless hours to accomplish their goals in their sport, putting in hours at the gym, at practice, and in training, and becoming one of the top athletes in their sport throughout their careers.
Farida Osman
Egyptian superstar Farida Osman (the golden fish) as they say, holds many records, including the first-ever gold medal for Egypt at the FINA World Championships. She has competed in two Olympics and holds two African records. And she holds the African record and title in the 50 m butterfly also.
Nour el Sherbini
Many women have won the women’s world squash championships, but none has matched Naur El-Sherbiny. Because she had won the women’s title at the U19 World Championships at age 13, and she became the youngest world champion at age 13 in 2009. Furthermore, El-Sherbiny won the 2016 and 2017 Squash World Championships respectively.
Yara Shalaby
A professional rally driver, Yara Shalaby, 33, has won several races from the 25 she has taken part in, proving stereotypes wrong by proving her talent as a skilled racer in Egypt. At the Africa Cycling Championship, she won two gold medals for Egypt. At the 2017 Arab Championship, she won a gold medal for Egypt.
Ferial Ashraf
In 2021, Ferial Abdelaziz became the first Egyptian woman to win one of the top Olympic medals by winning the Women’s Karate and this was Egypt’s first gold medal since 2004.
Sarah Ahmed
With her performance in weightlifting at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Sarah Ahmed Samir became the youngest Egyptian to win an Olympic medal at the age of 18.
